What is the of finger infection?

Hands are that part of our body without which we are unable to do anything. Finger infection is a common problem but its occurrence can cause difficulty in doing any work. The infection can range from mild to severe.

In most cases, finger infections are mild and can be easily treated. If you see symptoms of infection in your fingers like swelling, redness, pus accumulation, pain etc. then immediately go to the doctor and get it treated.

Some types of finger infection are as follows:

Paronychia :

Paronychia is the most common skin infection that affects the fingers and toes.

Happens around the nails. A type of bacteria or yeast (called Candida) causes this infection. Another cause of this problem is biting or chewing your nails but mostly this problem occurs due to working in wet or in the presence of chemicals.

Felon :

Felon is an infection of the tip of the finger. This infection is associated with the pads of the finger tips and their associated soft tissues.

herpetic whitlow :

Herpetic whitlow is an infection caused by a virus in part of the fingertip. This is also a very common viral infection in fingers. This infection is often misdiagnosed as paronychia or felon.

Cellulitis :

It is an infection of the skin and underlying tissue. This infection is mostly superficial and does not involve the deeper structures of the hand or finger.

infectious flexor tenosynovitis :

This infection occurs in the tendon sheaths that are responsible for flexing or closing the arm. This is deep space infection.

deep space infection :

This is an infection of the hands and fingers. It also includes tendons, blood vessels and muscles. This infection may involve one or more structures.

What are the symptoms of finger infection?

Just as each type of infection can have different causes and types, similarly the symptoms can also be different. Which are as follows:

Paronychia :

Symptoms of paronychia are redness and swelling around the finger nails. Along with this, pus may accumulate at the affected area. This pus may also come out of the wound in the form of liquid. This area may be hard and painful to touch.

Felon :

Symptoms of felon are swollen and painful fingertips. The swelling may last for several days. These wounds cause pain when touched. This part is mostly red and pus can also be seen in it. The swollen area will become soft. After a few days, if the swelling continues, it becomes hard.

Symptoms of herpetic vitiligo include redness and hardening of the affected area. There may be burning and itching in this area. There may be one or several wounds at the affected area.

Infectious flexor tenosynovitis has four major symptoms, called conval cardinal symptoms. These are as follows:

• Its first symptom is tenderness on the flexor or palm side of the finger. In this, the pain occurs above the tendon in the finger.
• The second is uniform pain throughout the finger.
• The third symptom is pain in straightening the finger.
• Fourth is the finger being in a slightly bent position.

Deep space infection occurs in the web space of the fingers. Symptoms of deep space infection include pain and swelling. This area may be red and painful to touch. As the boil grows larger, the fingers may spread slightly due to increased pressure.

What causes finger infection?

The main cause of infection is bacteria. This is also the cause of finger infection. This infection can occur due to any injury. This can also happen due to animal bites, wounds etc. The causes of each infection can be as follows.

Felon :

Felon infection is caused by a wound being torn, such as tearing the top of a finger with a pin. Staphylococcal and streptococcal organisms are often the source of infection. The bacteria can enter deeper layers of the skin through a puncture wound.

Cellulitis :

Bacteria are also the cause of cell inflammation. Bacteria can enter the lower layer of skin through an open wound. The infection can spread through the bloodstream to other parts of the hands and fingers.

Paronychia :

This infection is caused by the same bacteria that cause felon infection. However, in very rare cases, fungus can also cause it. The infection can also spread to surrounding areas. Cutting, eating, or piercing nails can also cause paronychia.

Deep space infection is caused by a deep puncture wound or cut that allows bacteria to reach the deeper tissues of the hand and fingers. People who have weak immunity or have diabetes are more likely to get this infection.

infectious flexor tenosynovitis :

This bacterial infection is usually the result of penetrating trauma that causes bacteria to move into deeper structures and tendon sheaths and which can spread along the tendons and associated sheaths.
